Help From ~ A Food Bank Near You

~ More resources just like the ones in Nanci’s book Fresh Hope …. Cleveland: Resources to Help You Navigate through Unsettled Times.

If you need help in this new year, a food bank may be the answer to your prayers. Below are the criteria that will qualify you for some assistance for the Cleveland Food Bank. However, every large city in every state in the United States has a food bank to help you. Check the Feeding America website for more information on how to find a food bank near you. I love their slogan,  “Through a nationwide network of food banks, Together We Can Solve Hunger.”

Feeding America site: http://feedingamerica.org/foodbank-results.aspx

But  in the meantime, keep WARM Cleveland! Don’t forget your hat, scarf, and gloves. Exposed skin can freeze in about 8 – 10 minutes with the -12 temperatures + windchill we and other parts of the East are having.

Stay Warm!

God Bless You!

A Bit of Everything ~ More Resources to Help You!

~ More about my book Fresh Hope … Cleveland and other NEW resources to help you.

Summer’s about gone in Cleveland except it’s going to be  93 degrees here today. So summer has made a brief return. Labor Day has passed and you can’t wear white, yesterday was Grandparents Day, and today it’s National Boss/Employee Exchange Day – a day for employers and employees to see each other’s point of view. Wow!

As the kids head back to college (my niece and her boyfriend flew from Seattle to England for graduate school on Sunday) and life settles down a bit, I thought I’d share some very helpful people in the financial, medical, and spiritual realm. I’ll give you a bit of what they have to say and you can Google their websites. Some of them have products for sale, so that’s why I can’t provide a link for you. But, if you are interested, head on over to your Internet browser to get all the details.

Great Resources:

1. Financial: You can be a student without a student loan. You can buy a car or even a house with cash. Don’t let debt become a way of life.  Check out financial guru Dave Ramsey’s website. His Financial Peace Universities are offered around the country. The seminars are based on financial concepts Dave developed after losing it all. Classes are offered around the country so you can know how to manage your money and have confidence for the future.

2. Medical: Alzheimer’s disease affects almost 40 million people worldwide, including over 5 million Americans. One in 8 people over age 65 are afflicted with this devastating brain disease.  See Dr. Don Colbert, Dr. Oz, and Dr. Andrew Weil, Ph.D, all have websites. Learn more about them there. Dr. Weil also has a Ph.D. in biology and knows many natural remedies.

Dr. Eric Braverman is very knowledgable of spices and how to use them effectively. He also tries to get this patients off medication if possible and use herbs and such. He’s an extremely smart doctor (graduated Summa Cum Laude from Brandeis University and graduated with honor’s from NYU Medical School.) He is one of the foremost experts in Integrative Medicine, and recognizes the brain’s global impact on illness and health. He has a bend toward psychiatry so he knows a lot about Alzheimer’s disease and everything else under the sun! No kidding!

You’ll also like the book, The Drug Muggers. It’s all about how prescription drugs rob our bodies of valuable vitamins and minerals.

3. Spiritual: All of these folks practice what they preach. Joyce Meyer of Joyce Meyer Ministries is practical, wise, helpful, and very funny. Men and women love her messages. She has authored lots of wonderful books and she’s lived the experiences she shares with her audiences. You can request prayer on her website too. Today on Facebook she left this message:

“Don’t get stuck thinking that things will never change because the only thing that never changes is God.”

Joel Osteen is the pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston. He is a great encourager. He has a world-wide ministry and is the author of many books. I never miss one of his weekly broadcasts because he helps me set the right tone for my upcoming week. On this website and blog he said: “Today, know that what begging won’t do, praise will. Don’t be a beggar. Instead, be a believer. When you pray, switch over into praise which is what opens the door for God to act.”

Dr. Charles Stanley of In Touch Ministries. He’s like a caring and wise grandfather. Many great resources on his site. Dr. Stanley is senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Atlanta and founder of In Touch Ministries. As a New York Times best-selling author, he demonstrates a keen awareness of people’s needs and provides Christ-centered biblically based principles for everyday life. He has a great broadcast every Saturday night on Trinity Broadcast Network at 8 p.m. and on several networks on Sunday mornings.

Max Lucado is not only a pastor and author many times over — writing about 100 books. He’s also considered America’s pastor. He has cards, stickers, small books, and all sorts of encouraging things that have been drawn up for purchase from his words of care and encouragement. In his tweet today he said this: The lesson we learn from Joseph (in the Bible) is surprisingly simple: do what pleases God. His new book You’ll Get through This is for everyone who is experiencing tough times. You can download the first chapter for FREE!

Odds-n-Ends:

If things in your life just aren’t working, here’s a short message from Joyce Meyer. Paste the link into your browser ~ you’ll want to hear it ~ Life’s Instruction Manual . http://bcove.me/xpjlrdzv

I have more but I’ll have to share that with you next time.

Make it a great day!

Furniture Banks All Across the US: Donations + Place to Shop

~ More great resources like you’ll find in my book Fresh Hope … Cleveland
Today, here’s a way to help others + it’s also a great place to shop!
Thank you  … God Bless You!
Nanci
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here’s  a Great Resource: Did You Know?
Furniture banks can be found in every major US city. Today I’m introducing you to The Cleveland Furniture Bank (CFB). CFB recently relocated to Southland Shopping Center in Middleburg Heights.  The move allowed them to consolidate their operations under one roof, expand their thrift store, and provide more space for needy clients to see and select from a greater array of furniture as they rebuild their lives.
Started in 2006,  the Cleveland Furniture Bank depends on donations of furniture and other items to help those in need.  Home pick-ups are available for a small fee in all of Cuyahoga County, most of Lake and Geauga counties, northern Summit and Medina counties and eastern Lorain County. Another aspect of the Cleveland Furniture Bank is their thrift store that offers a great selection of new and gently used furniture, clothing, household goods, and much more. Come in and visit or shop Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Closed on Sundays. Donations are accepted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Cleveland Furniture Bank is located at 13360 Smith Rd  in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, 44130. It’s probably best to call them before coming with your donations — (216) 459-2265, Ext. 101.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NOTE:
Not from Cleveland? Google Your city + furniture bank ~ most cities have something of this nature to help you s-t-r-e-t-c-h your dollars or help you get on your feet! Nearly every major city I checked from Seattle to Dallas, to Atlanta and Tampa right up the east coast to Portland, Maine, you’ll find a furniture bank to help those who at this particular time in their life — need a little extra help and care.  If you are from a smaller town and can’t locate one nearby, call a few of your local churches and I’m sure you’ll find just want you need.
May you or a friend be blessed by this information today!

5 Simple Steps to File Your Taxes

~ Welcome! Today I’m sharing more resources to help you in keeping with my new book Fresh Hope … Cleveland: Resources to Help You Navigate Through Unsettled Times.

I’m keeping the financial theme going because this week most of us should be receiving the last of our tax information from our employers. Yes, it’s that time again.

Last post I shared some important things for you to know about how NOT to spend your money this year from financial guru, Dave Ramsey.

Dave Ramsey is a well-known and reputable financial counselor. I’ve listed his book the Total Money Makeover in my book as a reference and resource for you. For those of you who are not familiar with Dave’s story, at the age of 26 he had an income of $250,000 a year and was worth about a million dollars. However, due to debt he lost everything.

Read more of his story at his website. His own mistakes are the reason he has been sharing financial concepts and makes it all available to help people like you and me.

See Dave’s website information and link to his latest helpful article which is entitled: 5 Simple Steps to File your Taxes. His article gives you steps to sort out all your information including:  Gathering Tax Information,  Knowing Dates, Organizing Papers, Filing Taxes, and then Relaxing.

Gifts You Can ~ Bake This Christmas

~ More great resources to help you save money and enjoy more of your life ~ all in keeping with my new book Fresh HopeCleveland.

I’m continuing the theme of “gifts you can make for Christmas.” Why? Because so many people overspend on gifts for one reason or another. Whatever the reason, don’t — I repeat, don’t get yourself in debt this Christmas. Save that for another year — just kidding! Staying out of debit means you can sleep at night, you’ll have greater peace of mind, improves your credit rating, and helps with your debit ratio so you can get that house you’ve been saving and praying for. Being debit free also gives you choices which in turn brings you power and options for your life.

Tips for Baked Goods Presentation

 I visited a Joann Fabric store yesterday and saw something wonderful that would be perfect for your  home baked gifts. I noticed they had decorative paper baking pans for all your holiday goodies. This way your home baked goods will look fabulous! Give it a try!

Gifts to Bake This Christmas

Snowflake Cookies

~ makes 5 dozen cookies using your cookie press. Decorate using all sorts of colored sugar. Bake 350 degrees for 10- 12 minutes. Enjoy!

2-1/4 c. flour

1/2 t. salt

1/4 t. cinnamon

1 c. butter (softened)

3 oz. cream cheese

1 c. sugar

1 large egg yolk

1 t. vanilla

Combine flour, salt, + cinnamon in bowl. Beat butter and cream cheese in mixer on medium speed until smooth.

Gradually beat in sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolk and vnilla with mixwer on low. Gradually add flour mixture just until blended.

Instert snowflake or desired disk into cookie press (using 1/3 of dough). Pipe the dough 1-1/2″  apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Decorage; bake; cool on wire racks.

Cranberry Date Bars

These have always been a big hit at the holiday. They’re topped with an orange glaze and have 2 grams of protein in each bar! The recipe makes 32 or so bars. I put mine into holiday liners and pack them into gift boxes.

1-12 oz. package of fresh cranberries

1 8-oz. package chopped pitted dates

1 t. vanilla

▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪

2 c. flour

2 c. rolled oats

1-1/2 c packed brown sugar

1/2 t. baking soda

1/4 t. salt

1 c. margarine or butter, melted

1 recipe Orange Glaze

Filling: in medum saucepan comtine cranberries and dates. Cook, covered, over low heat for 10 to 15 minutes or till cranberries pop, stirring frequently. Stir in vanilla. Set aside.

In large mixing bowl stir together flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Stir in melted butter till well blended. Pat half of the oat mixture on the bottom of a 13x9x2 baking pan. Bake 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Carefully spread filling over baked oat mixture. Sprinkle remaining oat mixture atop. Pat gently. Bake for 20 – 22 minutes more or until golden. Cool on a wire rack. Drizzle with Orange Glaze. Cut into bars.

Orange Glaze: In medium mixing bowl stir together 2 c. sifted powdered sugar, 1/2 t. vanilla, and enough orange juice (2 to 3 T.) to make of drizzling consistency. Makes 3/4  cup.

Have fun making these goodies ~ your children might like to help you especially with the Snowflakes Cookies!
