Looking for the Light: Good Health

apples

Last night I heard a very healthy message at my favorite grocery store, Heinen’s. Jordan Rubin spoke and promoted his new line of products, Get Real Nutrition.

Background:
Jordan Rubin is a doctor of naturopathic medicine and certified nutrition consultant. At 41 years of age Rubin is regarded by many as the most respected and beloved natural health expert in America. His personal account of his battle and triumph over Crohn’s disease has resonated with millions around the world and is one of the most dramatic natural health stories ever told. He’s a successful entrepreneur, New York Times best-selling author, international motivational speaker and television personality (TCT). And …. I might add, he’s also an organic farmer with lots of rolling acres in southern Missouri and papa to six kids of which five are adopted. As a follower of Christ his message of health and wellness is one of HOPE.

Jordan will be at Heinen’s downtown Cleveland location today; 900 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44115. Call for a reservation as seating is limited ~ (216) 302-3020.

Make it a great day today!

The 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud lady (pictured below), moved to a nursing home today. Even though she is legally blind, she is fully dressed each morning by eight o’clock with her hair fashionably coifed and makeup perfectly applied. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move to the nursing home necessary.
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on her window. “I love it,” she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy. “Mrs. Jones, you haven’t seen the room …. just wait.” “That doesn’t have anything to do with it,” she replied. “Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn’t depend on how the furniture is arranged, it’s how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it. It’s a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.
Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I’ll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I’ve stored away, just for this time in my life.” She went on to explain, “Old age is like a bank account, you withdraw from what you’ve put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories. Thank you for your part in filling my memory bank. I am still depositing.”
And with a smile, she said: “Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred: Forgive.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.
6. I’ll add a little more: Trust God.

Author Greg McKeown interviewed countless business executives during this career and saw first-hand how success can lead straight to professional and personal failure. He describes the problem: the insidious idea that we think we can do it all. Overwhelmed by expectations and options, entrepreneurs and executives find success and end up losing the single-minded focus that made them successful in the first place.

Inspired by the philosophy “less but better” — the Japanese say it this  way, “less is more,” McKeown shares in his book Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less,  practical tips on how to figure out what’s most important, eliminate the trivial, and establish routines for effortless execution.

McKeown earned his MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Love is More Than Just a Feeling: The 5 Love Languages ~ Part 8

~ Did you know you that each of us respond to certain love languages? It’s true! Here’s more about Dr. Gary Chapman’s ideas of being able to express love. This applies to parents and their children, your friends, and your spouse. Dr. Chapman has several versions of his book The Five Love Languages. As Valentine’s Day approaches here’s some great information for you!

Make it a great day!
Have a very Happy Valentine’s Day too!

God Bless You!

Valentine’s Day may be overrated but LOVE could never be!

Below are the 5 love languages. Each of us respond to one or perhaps two of these. That means when someone speaks our love language, you’ll most definitely will feel loved and cared about. Dr. Chapman, author of the book, The Five Love Languages, says knowing which love language your partner speaks can  transform your relationship.

The 5 Love Languages  (in no particular order):

♥ Words of Affirmation

♥ Quality Time

♥ Gifts

♥ Acts of Service

♥ Physical Touch

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q: What are some good love language suggestions to speak to my spouse this Valentine’s day?
Gary (author): On Valentine’s Day as well as any other day we should try to speak our spouse’s primary love language. What speaks most loudly to your spouse is when you speak love to him or her in a language he or she understands.  Flowers are great for some people, but will mean very little to others. Remember that there are five love languages: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, and Physical Touch. One of these languages will speak deeper to your spouse than any of the others this Valentine’s day.
Follow this link to answer a few questions that will help you realize what your love language is. http://www.blairdanz.com/userfiles/1338188/file/Forms%203-16-11/2_11LoveLanguageTest.pdf
