More Wisdom ~ Inner Beauty

~ More about my book Fresh Hope … Cleveland

A simple message today ~ but these pictures are worth a thousand words.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Inside every person flows a river of beauty.
About 20 years ago someone told me this about myself. I thought it was a wonderful thing to say about someone. I was deeply moved.
Each of the 12 rivers below has its own beauty ~ people have their own beauty too. Have you noticed that? If you look beyond the imperfections and see the hidden beauty in a person, you’ll see them as God’s sees them. Everyone has worth, value, and beauty ~ you just have to take a moment to find it.
God Bless You!
Love is More Than Just a Feeling ~ Part 2
~ More resources to help you just like in my book Fresh Hope … Cleveland.
Welcome to Part 2 of the series — Love Is More Than Just a Feeling.
A friend of our family died on my birthday a few weeks ago.  I know the whole entire clan (family) as my mom would say. The gentleman that died was 88 years of age. I’ve known him since I was four or five years of age. His son made a wonderful statement about his father.  He said his father taught him how to love correctly. What I got from that was he set a good example for his four children about what love is and how that looks and operates in everyday life.
Loving Correctly
When I think of loving correctly as my friend said of his dad, I put that message in writer’s terms — my terms since that’s what I do. LOVE is a verb. Verbs show action and that’s how love should be – full of help, care, hugs, calls — making, cooking, taking, guiding, complimenting, encouraging, or being there just because. Love is about giving of yourself. And when you do, you’ll find your own life as you lovingly give yours away. So my question is: What are you doing for others today? Are you putting your LOVE into action? Are you Loving Correctly?
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. I Corinthians 13: 4 -7 ~ New Living Translation
Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
God Bless You!
November, I was told the other day, is National Adoption Month. Nothing can replace the LOVE and care of a family.
LOVE at It’s Best
Adoptive families embrace the concept around which this whole series revolves. It’s all about the bigger picture of something — something so much larger than ourselves. It’s all about LOVE.
To take tiny people into your home that you don’t even know, spend time and money to give them a good home and provide for them when they can’t repay you is indeed LOVE. To nurture someone and give of yourself –is LOVE at it’s very best. To be quite honest, raising children is a selfless act no matter if they are biologically your own or adopted. But if you adopt a child, that’s even more special. I heard a story about a family that adopted a young boy. One day he and his sister got into a little spat. The sister shouted at her brother, you were adopted! He told her, well, mom and dad had to take you when you came. But I was picked out special!
Why Are Families Important?
Families make us who we are by nurturing, encouraging, and directing us. They also help mold our personality and character. A family is the place too where memories are made and each one of us experiences holiday traditions with food, decorations, music, and perhaps your funny Aunt Clara. Remember she’s the one who always bakes ten pies at Christmas or Thanksgiving, brings her cute little Schnauzer, drives a VW bug – and she’s attractive but still not married! That sounds like somebody I know!
A family is the place where you’re supposed to be accepted and loved in spite of everything. A family will never perfect but certainly for those who adopt, the objective is to provide a loving home environment. The adoptive family as well as the adoptee are placed within the family unit after evaluation and a home study. Both the family and the child(ren) are carefully placed to make sure it’s a good fit. It can be a satisfying relationship for both the family and a well-deserving child that needs a home – because they both need each other. But the glue that cements the entire relationship together is LOVE.
There was a great article in USA Today (September 12, 2013). It indicated that adoption numbers were rising for kids in foster care. A great quote from the article shared this, “It’s important to work on family success, not just child placement, expert says.”
“If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I could only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.” I Corinthians 13: 1-3 ~ New Living Translation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I realized that when I posted my message a few Tuesdays ago that I did not sign off in the usual way that I always do ~ with the words “God Bless You.”

Usually we say “God Bless You” after someone sneezes. One explanation holds that the custom originally began as an actual blessing. Gregory I became Pope in AD 590 as an outbreak of the bubonic plague was reaching Rome. In hopes of fighting off the disease, he ordered unending prayer and parades of chanters through the streets. At the time, sneezing was thought to be an early symptom of the plague. The blessing (“God bless you!”) became a common effort to halt the disease. Another legend holds that the heart stops beating during a sneeze, and that the phrase “bless you” encourages the heart to continue beating (thanks to Wikipedia).

But what does that mean when I tell you “God Bless You?” It simply means that something supernaturally wonder will be coming your way. For a brief time God’s favor will be upon you. Blessings come in many shapes and sizes. They may be running into an old friend, getting a new job, or receiving a new puppy. It may also be catching a glimpse of a beautiful sunset, hearing a new song for the first time, or enjoying a generous slice of your favorite cheesecake. A friend made me dinner last weekend and then treated me to a concert given by singer/songwriter Mark Schultz. The concert was wonderful. Mark Schultz is not only a wonderful singer/songwriter but he is hilarious. He is hilarious! I had a great time. God blessed me with a great evening. My prayer for you is that you will be blessed by God in many glorious ways too ~ in the most unexpected ways.

God Bless You!
