Get rid of the white flour, white bread, white rice, and anything for that matter made with white flour. That includes breads, rice, pastas, and pastries. Anything “white” converts to sugar in the body. Depending on the rest of your diet, that can lead to diabetes over time.

What should you be eating? Have you ever had a fruit smoothie? I make a lot of them in the summertime. I use lots of great ingredients including oranges, fresh or frozen blueberries, and organic yogurt. They give you lots of antioxidants, fiber, and nutrients all things that your body needs.

If you like yogurt, I’ve recently gotten hooked on Greek yogurt. It has three times as much protein and twice the calcium of regular yogurt. My first experience had me believing I had died and gone to heaven. Yes, it’s that good. It comes in low-fat and regular version. Add fresh or frozen raspberries to peach greek yogurt and you’ve got Peach Melba ~ Heaven right here on Earth!

Here’s something else your body needs: Protein. You need protein every day because your body does not manufacture it. Plant sources are the best like kidney beans, garbanzo beans, peanut butter, soy, and tofu. Animal sources like chicken, pork, and fish are great too. However, you do want to limit your intake of red meat. Why? Eating red meat may increase the risk of cancer and heart disease.  Some red meats are high in saturated fat, which raises blood cholesterol. High levels of LDL cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease. When it comes to cancer, the answer is not so clear. Many researchers say it does raise the risk, especially for colorectal cancer.
