5 Simple Steps to File Your Taxes

~ Welcome! Today I’m sharing more resources to help you in keeping with my new book Fresh Hope … Cleveland: Resources to Help You Navigate Through Unsettled Times.

I’m keeping the financial theme going because this week most of us should be receiving the last of our tax information from our employers. Yes, it’s that time again.

Last post I shared some important things for you to know about how NOT to spend your money this year from financial guru, Dave Ramsey.

Dave Ramsey is a well-known and reputable financial counselor. I’ve listed his book the Total Money Makeover in my book as a reference and resource for you. For those of you who are not familiar with Dave’s story, at the age of 26 he had an income of $250,000 a year and was worth about a million dollars. However, due to debt he lost everything.

Read more of his story at his website. His own mistakes are the reason he has been sharing financial concepts and makes it all available to help people like you and me.

See Dave’s website information and link to his latest helpful article which is entitled: 5 Simple Steps to File your Taxes. His article gives you steps to sort out all your information including:  Gathering Tax Information,  Knowing Dates, Organizing Papers, Filing Taxes, and then Relaxing.

Make it a great day ~ only 49 days until Spring arrives!

Something to Think About as You Move Forward into This New Year

If you need a vision for how to proceed in the new year, these stragedies may help you. A few of them are from my new book Fresh Hope… Cleveland.

1. When you are unsure about the path you are following, let this thought guide you. “Even in the midst of a Plan B, you really have only one task, one calling. And that is to do what you would do if you were confident God was with you.” ~ Pete Wilson, author of Plan B: What do you do when God doesn’t show up the way you thought He would

Note: Plan B here means an alternative plan than the first one you had.

2. Keep your eyes open throughout the new year for ideas and opportunities. “The intelligent man is always open to new ideas. In fact, he looks for them.” The Living Bible ~ Proverbs 18:15 (from the text of Fresh Hope … Cleveland)

3. Practice gratefulness each morning. If you are going through a tough time right now, you may want to begin your day by recording five (5) different things in your life that you are grateful for. Dwell on those things throughout your day (from the text of Fresh Hope … Cleveland).

I hope these gave you some comfort and direction!

Here’s to a very productive new year ~

God Bless You!

Register ~ FREE Resume Clinic in Cleveland ~ March 2

~ More great resources in keeping with Nanci’s book Fresh Hope … Cleveland

FREE Resume Review Clinic on March 2, 2013

Is your resume getting results?

REGISTER now to have your resume reviewed by a professional.

What:    Chagrin Valley Job Seekers (CVJS) Resume Review Clinic

When:    Saturday, March 2nd

Time:     9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (you will be assigned a specific time slot)

Where:  Pioneer Memorial Presbyterian Church (same place as the CVJS meetings.)

TO REGISTER:

Send an e-mail to Greg Reynolds at cvjsgreg@yahoo.com with Resume Review Clinic in the subject line.

Here are eight reasons to invest in yourself by registering for the resume review clinic:

1.      You are just starting your job search and need a resume.

2.      You are stuck in your job search.

3.      You are currently employed, but worried your department may be reorganized or the company may be sold this year.

4.      You are currently employed but underutilized and need to check out the job market.

5.      You have already had your resume reviewed by a CVJS Resume Reviewer.

6.      You had professional assistance from a career consultant at an outplacement firm.

7.      You are perfectly happy with the resume you have.

8.      You are happily employed and have no intention of making a job change.

So, you may be thinking, “Okay, reasons 1 through 4 make perfect sense, but I am not so sure about 5 through 8.  Why would I want to show up at the clinic if I have already had my resume reviewed by a CVJS Resume Reviewer or had professional assistance at an outplacement firm?  And I can’t imagine why I would go the clinic if I am perfectly happy with my current resume or my job.”

Well, consider this: The volunteers who assist at the CVJS Resume Review Clinic include HR professionals, recruiters from search firms, corporate recruiters and career consultants from outplacement firms.  Were you perfectly satisfied with your last job before your last job was eliminated?  Wouldn’t it make sense to expand your network while getting resume advice from a professional?

Remember at work and in life:  It’s not who you know…It’s who knows you.

No job seeker should miss this free opportunity to have their resume critiqued by an expert.

You must pre-register to reserve a meeting with a resume reviewer on March 2nd.

To register, send an email to Greg Reynolds at cvjsgreg@yahoo.com with Resume Review Clinic in the subject line. Give us your name and phone number in the body of the e-mail. Once you have registered, we will send you details of the day.

I hope this is information is helpful! Make is a great day!

God Bless You!

Gratitude ~ Can Help Solve Your Problems

~ More on Nanci’s new book Fresh Hope … Cleveland.

A short but hopeful post today. Just a reminder. WordPress has eliminated the ability for me to add color and some justification to my posts. So things don’t look quite the same. I’m not happy about it but, what can I do?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Happy New Year!
We all have challenges — each one of us. I discovered something wonderful the other day. I found it to be very helpful. Here it is: gratitude! Yes, gratitude is something you’ll find in my book. I’m going to meet with someone tomorrow who’s a gratitude specialist. I’ll share more about Lisa and her passion for gratitude in an upcoming post. Today, I hope this helps you. It helped me a lot.
When you are plagued by a persistent problem — one that goes on and on — view it as a rich opportunity. An ongoing problem is like a tutor who is always by your side. The learning opportunities are limited only by your willingness to be taught …
Once you have become grateful for a problem, it loses its power to drag you down. On the contrary, your thankful attitude will lift you up into heavenly places with Me.
Laughter’s a Good Thing
Laughter is an important concept I talk about in my book. Laughter is good medicine for your soul. The text of my book says this, ” Did you know that laughter can reduce your stress? And even if you fake a laugh, your immune system will benefit. Having a good sense of humor is also very important to your well-being.”
Fruitcake: Love it or hate it?
Back to the message of this post — Fruitcake Toss. You either love fruitcake or you hate it. There is no middle of the road here. Personally, I love fruitcake. My mom made the best fruitcake. She soaked it in bourbon which gave it a delicious flavor. I do admit, I never liked the green candied fruit though. What about you? Do you buy fruitcake, eat it when someone gives you one, try to unload it at a friend’s New Year’s Eve party, or do you just toss it out like the title of my post indicates: Toss That Fruitcake?
January Fruitcake Ritual
Tossing your uneaten fruitcake can be an early January ritual if you really hate the stuff. Participating in a fruitcake toss locally on some national level can certainly make you laugh and give you a sense of satisfaction too. It can be a healthy way for you to connect with others in the winter months, give you something to look forward to after Christmas, and give you oodles of  laughs all at the same time. Here’s more from the annual Great Fruitcake Toss in Manitou Springs, Colorado, on the first Saturday in January — this Saturday!
National Fruitcake Day
(from their website) … At last, the answer to that age-old question: How do I get rid of this terrible stuff –fruitcake? People in Manitou Springs have found the answer. Throw it as far as you can, by any means that you can, and hope it’s never found again. You can come watch this amazing event for free (however, contestants pay a small fee or donate a can of non-perishable food to enter the events).
I love this sentence about the event from their website: “Several local Inns offer Fruitcake Toss specials, including a heavy-duty cake to use in the event, and advance coaching on the art of fruitcake tossing.” Too funny! And just think, all this fuss is about a sweet little cake loaded with nuts and fruit! Mmmm good!
Follow this link if you want to get in on the action in Colorado or find out more:
http://www.colorado-for-free.com/FreeThingsToDoColorado/FruitcakeToss.htm
I hope you enjoy a good laugh today but remember to look out for those flying fruitcakes this weekend!
God Bless You!
